Cyclospora Outbreak in Indiana
The Indiana Department of Health has reported 206 cases of cyclosporiasis statewide since May 1, with no illnesses linked to Parkview facilities. Cyclospora is a parasite that can cause illness several days after exposure, with symptoms including watery diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, fatigue, dehydration, and weight loss.
Parkview Health advises anyone experiencing these symptoms to seek medical care, as cyclospora infections require specific testing and can be treated with prescription antibiotics. Health officials also recommend practicing safe food handling, such as washing produce thoroughly and washing hands before and after handling fresh fruits and vegetables.
