Parents Support Digital Literacy in Pre-K

A recent survey of 2,000 parents of children aged 0–5 years found that, on average, parents believe digital literacy should be taught starting at the age of four. The survey, commissioned by Primrose Schools and conducted by Talker Research, revealed that 89% of parents think it’s essential for their children’s screentime to be educational.

Parental Concerns

Managing screentime is a significant concern for parents, with 37% citing it as a parenting pressure. Parents are also worried about taking care of their own personal health (41%), balancing their work-life balance (50%), and trying to be the “perfect” parent (39%).

Despite these challenges, parents recognize the importance of teaching their children how to use technology responsibly. In fact, 90% of parents believe that teaching their children how to use technology will be crucial for their child’s future.

Seeking Guidance

Many parents are seeking guidance on how to teach their children responsible technology habits. Some look to their own parents (31%) or friends (24%) for advice, while others seek help from professionals like pediatricians and preschool/early childhood educators (21% each).

Dr. Amy Jackson, Chief Franchise Officer at Primrose Schools, emphasized the need for thoughtful approaches to using technology in early childhood. “When educational technology is designed with intention, it can enrich learning, spark curiosity, and help families feel more confident about how digital educational experiences enhance hands-on learning,” she said.
