Pamperin Park Unveils New Outdoor Shelter for Community Gatherings

In Howard, Wisconsin, Pamperin Park has introduced a new outdoor shelter, enhancing the community’s options for gatherings. The Brown County Parks Department officially opened the facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking the completion of a project long in the making.

Matt Kriese, Director of the Brown County Parks Department, expressed enthusiasm about the new addition, stating, “It’s been a couple years in the making. We know that the community has been asking for more public covered space here at Pamperin Park. It’s one of our most well-loved and used parks in the County Parks system, so we’re happy to provide this new amenity to the community as a gathering place. That’s really what the parks are for.”

The new shelter, which replaces a smaller, decades-old gazebo, spans over 5,500 square feet and can accommodate up to 125 people. It is designed to host a variety of events, including parties, weddings, reunions, and company picnics. The park also features an indoor dance hall available for rent, offering even more options for community events.

Since its opening, the shelter has already seen a positive response from the community, with 10 reservations made within the first week. Kriese emphasized the long-term vision for the park system, saying, “Any time we have a new amenity to offer the community in the parks, it’s not about us. It’s not about right now. It’s about future generations. That’s what we’re doing in our job is setting up the future park system for generations to come in Brown County.”

The facility is equipped with electricity, a charcoal grill, a ping pong table, rocking chairs, and garbage/recycling containers. Additionally, the project included the creation of 18 new parking spaces, all while staying under the $300,000 budget.

Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach highlighted the importance of such developments, stating, “We’re hearing from the public that they want these types of resources made available to them, and luckily, we have a great team and a great staff that continue to champion investments like this.”

Residents interested in booking the new shelter can do so online, or they can contact the Brown County Parks Office for assistance.
