Palm Beach County residents are being warned about a scam involving fake emails that falsely claim to be from a sheriff’s office captain. The emails tell recipients they must take part in a “Zoom Court Official Proceeding” related to a supposed federal court matter.

According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO), the messages are fake and were not sent by PBSO or any federal court. The scam email includes instructions for a virtual court appearance and warns of consequences if the recipient does not comply.
PBSO said the messages are part of an impersonation scam designed to mislead the public. Anyone who receives one of the emails is advised not to respond, click on links, or open attachments. Instead, recipients should delete the message immediately.
PBSO said anyone who is unsure whether a communication claiming to be from the sheriff’s office is legitimate can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-TIPS or use the “See Something” feature in the PBSO mobile app.
