A Palestinian family, torn apart by war in Gaza, has been reunited in Israel. The siblings, aged 8 to 22, were orphaned after an Israeli airstrike killed their parents and younger brother in July 2024.
Reunification Efforts
The eldest sibling, Mais, who had already emigrated to Israel, worked with a team of lawyers to secure Israeli passports for her brothers and sisters. After a years-long effort, they were finally able to reunite in Israel.
The family’s story began in 2002 when their father, a native of Gaza, met and married their mother, a Palestinian citizen of Israel, in Israel. They had eight children together, but their lives were forever changed when their parents and younger brother were killed in the airstrike.
The siblings, who were forced to fend for themselves in Gaza, were eventually able to make their way to Israel, where they were reunited with Mais. They are now living together in the city of Nazareth, where they are trying to rebuild their lives.
A New Beginning
The reunion has brought a sense of joy and relief to the family, but it has also been marked by grief and a sense of loss. The siblings are still coming to terms with the trauma they experienced in Gaza and are working to adjust to their new life in Israel.
