Loui Ridi, a Palestinian-American, had built a home in his native town of Qusra for his two daughters. However, the family’s dream of living in their ancestral home is now under threat as Israeli settlers have surrounded the hilltop where Ridi’s and two other homes sit.

The settlers have pitched a tent, cut off essential services, and blocked roads, trapping Ridi’s brother, Qusai, and Qusai’s son inside with limited food and water. Qusai has vowed not to surrender, saying, ‘We will not leave, even if we have to drink salt and water in this house and if there’s not a single piece of bread left.’

International Response

The Israeli military has launched an operation to protect the residents and maintain security in the area. However, the situation remains tense, with the settlers refusing to back down. The US Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, has condemned the settlers’ actions as a ‘horrific act of terror meant to intimidate and harass’ and has stated that the embassy is ‘VERY involved’ in the situation.

The incident is not an isolated one, with Palestinian families in the West Bank facing increased settler attacks, forced displacement, and Israeli military incursions. The United Nations has reported that over 3,200 Palestinians have been displaced across the West Bank due to settler attacks and demolitions this year alone.
