Packers RB Josh Jacobs pleads no contest to misdemeanor, faces NFL suspension

Green Bay, Wis. – Packers running back Josh Jacobs took the courtroom step he wanted on Thursday, pleading no contest to misdemeanor charges of battery and criminal damage to property stemming from an incident with his ex‑girlfriend. In a brief statement to the bench, Jacobs said, “I fully understand the seriousness of the situation and I take full responsibility.”

Legal resolution and immediate consequences

Jacobs’ attorneys – David Z. Chesnoff, Richard A. Schonfeld, and Clarence F. Duchac – released a statement confirming the plea and emphasizing that the agreement resolves the matter. The Brown County District Attorney presented video evidence of the battery, and the judge warned that a no‑contest plea will be treated as a guilty plea for sentencing purposes.

The court ordered Jacobs to pay a $1,000 fine for the battery charge. For the criminal damage to property charge, he must meet additional requirements over the next 12 months; failure to do so could result in a nine‑month county‑jail sentence and a $10,000 fine for each count.

NFL review under the Personal Conduct Policy

Following the plea, Jacobs remains on the league’s exempt list, a status that allows him to be paid while the NFL conducts its own review. The league has not set a timetable for concluding the investigation, but a first‑time battery offense typically carries a baseline six‑game suspension under the Personal Conduct Policy. The NFL can reduce that length if it finds strong mitigating or cooperative factors.

Regardless of the final disciplinary decision, Jacobs will miss the Packers’ upcoming regular‑season opener against the Minnesota Vikings and likely be unavailable for additional games.

Community work and personal background

Jacobs’ attorneys highlighted his long‑standing community involvement throughout his NFL career, noting that his outreach efforts have been shaped by his own early‑life experiences. While the legal process moves forward, those community contributions remain a notable part of his public profile.

Jacobs indicated to the judge that he sought a swift resolution to avoid a protracted trial that would keep him away from his team and the community he serves. By pleading no contest, he avoided a trial that could have extended into the later part of the season.

What’s next for the Packers?

Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur and the organization have not released detailed comments beyond acknowledging the legal outcome. The team will need to adjust its roster and game‑plan strategy while awaiting the NFL’s final ruling.

Fans and local residents are encouraged to stay informed through official Packers communications and the league’s announcements regarding any forthcoming suspension.
