The Department of Justice has revealed that more than 475,000 unaccompanied alien children (UACs) were trafficked to the US during the Biden administration, with over 300,000 still unaccounted for as of the end of 2024. Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that these children were often abused, assaulted, and exploited by transnational criminal organizations.
Investigation and Response
The Trump administration launched a welfare check initiative to locate the missing UACs, and US attorneys nationwide are prosecuting human traffickers and smugglers. Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin criticized the Biden administration for its handling of the situation, stating that it was a case of “true neglect, at best, and criminal, at worst, to allow 450,000 kids to go missing throughout this country.”
Mullin also announced that federal agents have found the majority of UACs in so-called sanctuary cities run by Democrats. He vowed to continue the search for the missing children and to bring their abusers to justice.
The investigation has identified over 15,500 super-sponsor cases, involving individuals who sponsor more than three unrelated UACs. These cases have been linked to sexual assault of children and other horrific crimes.
