Ouzel Falls Fire Erupts in Gros Ventre Wilderness, Wyoming

A new wildfire has emerged in the Jackson Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest, located near Ouzel Falls and the Darwin Ranch in the Gros Ventre Wilderness, Wyoming. The fire, known as the Ouzel Falls Fire, was reported on Sunday night and is currently estimated to cover 1/10th of an acre.

Firefighting Efforts Underway

The Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF) has mobilized Teton Interagency Fire resources to combat the blaze. The response includes a type 3 helicopter, a wildland fire module, multiple fire engines, and firefighting personnel. Crews are working closely with Darwin Ranch to address the fire, which is burning in heavy timber and on steep, rugged terrain.

Aerial resources are conducting water bucket drops via helicopter, contingent on weather and conditions, while ground crews are constructing containment lines and directly suppressing the fire. Due to the challenging terrain, short haul operations may be utilized to insert firefighters where traditional access is not feasible.

Cause and Context

The cause of the Ouzel Falls Fire has not yet been determined. This incident follows the recent containment of the Spread Creek Fire, which was the first major wildland fire of the year for BTNF. The community remains vigilant as fire season progresses, with local resources prepared to respond to any new developments.

This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
