The city of Casper, Wyoming, will host the premiere of the docudrama ‘Outriding The Devil’ on June 13 at Studio City Mesa + ARQ. This film delves into the roots of rodeo and Western heritage, focusing on the inspiring story of Texas Rodeo Hall of Famer Angela Ganter and her daughter Jackie. Angela’s journey as a world champion barrel racer and breast cancer survivor highlights the grit and determination emblematic of the Western Spirit.
A Story of Heritage and Resilience
Angela Ganter’s great-grandparents were among the first to ranch in Comancheria, now West Texas, in 1850. The film uses dramatizations filmed at Mescal Movie Studios to add historical context to this story of survival and strength. ‘Outriding the Devil’ is not just a film about rodeo; it is an American story that celebrates how rodeo began and continues to thrive.
The film first premiered at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas last December. Director Raen LeVell’s passion for Wyoming, its western culture, history, and rodeo, inspired the film’s premiere at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper. This unique event marks the film as the only one premiered at both the National Finals Rodeo and the College National Finals Rodeo.
Featuring Rodeo Stars
‘Outriding the Devil’ stars some of the top rodeo athletes in the country, including world champions Stetson Wright and Rusty Wright. The film also features Mo Brings Plenty from ‘Yellowstone’ and ‘Marshals,’ and is narrated by Forrie J Smith. Wyomingites Chancey Williams and Ned LeDoux also play significant roles in the film.
In addition to the film premiere, Raen LeVell will host a Q&A session and premiere his short film ‘Becoming Billy,’ starring Chancey Williams, on June 12 at David Street Station. This event offers a unique opportunity for the Casper community to engage with the filmmakers and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of rodeo.
