Oshkosh police were called to a home in the 1800 block of North Main Street around 10:20 p.m. on Friday after a disturbance involving a weapon was reported. Officers found a 45‑year‑old man who knew the victim and who threatened to kill the victim while pointing a firearm at them. The victim fled the residence.
While officers were securing the scene, they learned that three juveniles remained inside the home. Police say the suspect also threatened to kill the children and warned any responding officers that they would be in danger.
SWAT and crisis teams intervene
The Oshkosh Police Department’s SWAT team, crisis negotiators, and a drone unit responded, joined by the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin State Patrol. Negotiators worked with the suspect and ultimately convinced him to surrender without further violence.
The man was taken into custody and booked on preliminary charges of second‑degree recklessly endangering safety, disorderly conduct, and strangulation. A search of the residence uncovered four firearms and additional ammunition.
