The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office is ready to shut down illegal house parties at vacation rentals this holiday weekend. In recent months, two teens were killed at house parties in the county.
Cracking Down on Illegal Activities
Major Alex Guevara of the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said the department has focused on cracking down on illegal house parties that involve activities beyond typical family gatherings, such as serving alcohol to minors. The Sheriff’s Office deploys street crimes units to locate and shut down these parties.
Airbnb has also helped in their efforts, implementing what it called ‘anti-party technology’ for the holiday weekend. The company said the technology blocks or redirects thousands of bookings for entire homes that are deemed at higher risk for unauthorized parties.
Guevara issued a warning to anyone planning a party with illegal activities this weekend, stating, ‘This is not the county. You are going to have to come to jail.’ Residents can report issues like parties in progress to Airbnb’s neighborhood support line or contact the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office for assistance.
