A 21-year-old Orlando man is dead after being hit by a car while trying to cross the road Saturday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Gatlin Avenue near Evander Drive in Orange County. A 2014 BMW 535i was traveling westbound on Gatlin Avenue when the man, who was walking along the shoulder, attempted to cross the roadway and stepped into the path of the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers said he was not using a marked crosswalk.

The 18-year-old Orlando driver was not injured and remained at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
