A brief traffic infraction in Poinciana, Polk County, led to the arrest of an Orlando man facing multiple felony charges from the coast. Joshua Lopez-Morales, 20, was driving a white 2002 GMC truck through the intersection of Muskrat Drive and Coyote Road when a Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputy observed the truck fail to stop at the intersection’s stop sign and initiated a traffic stop.
During the stop, the deputy identified the driver as Lopez-Morales. A standard background check revealed that the Orlando resident had an active, outstanding warrant for his arrest out of Volusia County. The Volusia County warrant included charges of robbery, battery, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, deputies say.
The deputy cited Lopez-Morales for the traffic violation and immediately placed him under arrest due to the active warrant. Authorities transported Lopez-Morales to the Polk County Sheriff’s Processing Center, where he was booked into jail on the outstanding charges. He awaits transfer or further legal proceedings regarding the Volusia County offenses.
