Orlando IVF Mix-up Resolved

A Florida couple, Tiffany Score and Steven Mills, have reached a custody agreement with the biological parents of a baby born in an IVF mix-up at the Fertility Center of Orlando.

Background

The mix-up occurred when the couple’s baby, born in December, displayed genetic traits that were clearly different from their own. They located the biological parents about two months ago, raising the question of who should raise the child.

Score shared on Instagram that she and her partner have met with the biological parents multiple times and reached an agreement that allows them to retain full custody of the baby, Shea. She described the genetic parents as ‘truly wonderful people’ and said they plan to maintain a relationship with them.

Lawyer for the genetic parents, Rob Marcereau, said his clients agreed to let Score and Mills keep custody but described the decision as heartbreaking. He added that his clients are devastated and plan to pursue legal action against the original clinic.

Both couples are pursuing legal action against the Fertility Center of Orlando, which has since shut down. Score and Mills have already filed a lawsuit, and Marcereau confirmed that the genetic parents are planning to do the same.
