Suzanne Carlson, an Oregon-based maritime ferry operator, has launched the Oregon Waterway Preparedness Pledge to encourage individuals to take greater responsibility for water safety, environmental stewardship, and community awareness.
The Pledge
The pledge consists of seven actions, including practicing daily preparedness, leading through consistency, staying educated, respecting natural conditions, promoting clear communication, protecting local waterways, and mentoring through example.
Carlson emphasizes that people do not need special equipment or paid services to make a difference. She provides a DIY toolkit with 10 actions anyone can take, such as checking local weather forecasts, learning basic water safety principles, and picking up litter during walks near waterways.
30-Day Progress Tracker
Participants are encouraged to track simple actions throughout the month, including checking weather conditions, learning new water safety facts, and reviewing emergency preparedness basics.
Carlson invites individuals, families, boaters, outdoor enthusiasts, and community members to take the Oregon Waterway Preparedness Pledge and share the toolkit with others.
