Orange County is working to find a long-term solution for the Tymber Skan on the Lake Condominiums, which have been plagued by mismanaged funds, unsafe buildings, crime, and squatters. Many residents are concerned about what comes next for them.
Community Meeting
About 30 people attended a community meeting on Wednesday night, including those who still live in Tymber Skan. The meeting was an hour-and-a-half presentation, followed by questions and discussion. District 6 Orange County Commissioner Mike Scott was in attendance.
One resident, who identified himself as an owner who raised his children in the Tymber Skan Condos, became emotional during the meeting. “You’re not fixing nothing. You’re just going to terminate and completely destroy whatever’s left in that community, thank you so much for wasting my time,” he said. The man then stormed out of the meeting.
Real estate and criminal defense attorney Ronald A. Legendre asked, “What’s going to happen to the property once everything is gone?” Commissioner Scott responded, “That answer could be anything, again it depends on how this process goes.”
Proposed Solution
Orange County proposes to terminate the condominiums so the property can be sold, utilize a third party to manage the sale of the property, and offer services to impacted residents. The next time the Orange County Board of County Commissioners will take up this issue is on August 25, when they will vote on initiating termination proceedings for the Tymber Skan community.
