In Ontario, Oregon, local firefighters acted swiftly to contain a grass fire that posed a threat to nearby structures on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred at 4280 Remuda Lane, within the Ontario Rural Fire Protection District.

Rapid Response

Ontario Fire & Rescue dispatched a team from Station 1, including a Type 5 brush engine staffed by three firefighters and a command vehicle with an officer. Upon arrival, they encountered a 2-acre fire spreading against the wind, a situation described by Ontario fire chief Clint Benson as ‘backing rapidly.’

To combat the fire, the team initiated a direct attack and called for additional support. The Vale Fire Department provided mutual aid with a water tender, while brush engines from Payette Fire and Fruitland Fire Departments also assisted.

Successful Containment

Thanks to the coordinated efforts, the fire’s forward spread was halted, and it was contained at approximately 3 acres, preventing any damage to nearby structures. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.

Chief Benson identified the cause of the fire as an ‘active burn pile’ that had spread to the surrounding vegetation. In total, the response involved four brush engines, two water tenders, and two command vehicles.
