Vineland, N.J. – A fatal traffic collision occurred on Route 55 in Cumberland County early Saturday morning, leaving one driver dead and two others injured. Police reported that the incident happened at approximately 8:30 a.m. in the city of Vineland.
Sequence of events
According to the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office, a Tesla traveling southbound on Route 55 left the roadway and entered the grass median. The driver lost control, causing the vehicle to strike a tree before sliding back onto the northbound lanes.
While the Tesla was sliding, it collided with an oncoming sport‑utility vehicle (SUV). The impact proved fatal for the SUV driver, who was identified as 68‑year‑old Phillip Eastman of Springfield, Delaware County.
Injuries and investigation
The driver of the Tesla and a passenger in the SUV sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries has not been disclosed.
Authorities have opened an investigation into the crash. Police are reviewing dash‑cam footage, vehicle data, and witness statements to determine the cause of the loss of control.
