Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields Festival Raises $20 Million for Women’s Well‑Being in Irvine

On Saturday, Irvine hosted the Daisy Chain Fields benefit festival, a women‑led music event headlined by 23‑year‑old pop star Olivia Rodrigo. The concert raised a total of $20 million for ten nonprofit partners, including the National Women’s Law Center, Black Mamas Matter Alliance and Planned Parenthood affiliates.

Local families and fans rally behind the cause

Attendees ranging from teenagers to grandparents gathered in the festival’s “philanthropy village,” where they could learn about each nonprofit’s mission and collect pins from every booth. 24‑year‑old Orange County resident Grace Slevin said the music‑and‑mission blend made the experience feel authentic, noting, “People don’t join together and mobilize unless they feel connected to the group that is mobilizing. What’s better than music?”

Melissa Shaw, a mother driving from Tucson with her 8‑year‑old daughter, praised the event for giving her child a chance to see celebrities who model service to the community. “It’s really important for me as a parent to expose my daughter to celebrities who set that example,” she said.

Nonprofit partners receive flexible grants

The $10 million donation from Rodrigo’s team and the matching $10 million pledge from philanthropist Melinda French Gates will be distributed as general operating support, allowing each organization to decide how best to use the funds. Black Mamas Matter Alliance co‑founder Angela Doyinsola Aina called the unrestricted funding “the hardest kind of funding to raise and the most useful.” The National Women’s Law Center said the grant will help plug budgetary gaps as they litigate sex‑discrimination cases.

Planned Parenthood’s National Director of Arts and Entertainment, Caren Spruch, highlighted the importance of normalizing reproductive health services, especially as clinics face closures in restrictive states. She noted that the festival’s outreach mirrors the legacy of the 1990s Lilith Fair, which also raised $10 million for women’s charities.

National policy backdrop

The festival’s fundraising comes as the Trump administration works to restore family‑planning grants that were paused last year. Officials have agreed to release the $27.5 million that had been held for Planned Parenthood affiliates, underscoring the relevance of the festival’s mission to current federal policy.

By uniting music, families and nonprofit advocacy, Daisy Chain Fields demonstrated how a younger generation can mobilize resources for women’s health, workplace rights and legal protections, offering a hopeful model for future community‑driven philanthropy.
