Oklahoma lawmakers have expressed support for a bipartisan housing bill aimed at making homeownership more affordable. The 21st Century Road to Housing Act, which has cleared both the House and Senate, aims to cut federal regulations tied to home construction, modernize housing programs, and encourage more housing development.

Oklahoma Sen. James Lankford said the legislation would reduce bureaucracy, free up more land for development, and lower costs without increasing federal spending. Congressman Tom Cole also supported the bill, saying it would encourage construction of single-family homes, apartments, and multifamily developments while reducing regulatory barriers.
Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt praised the legislation, calling it the first major federal housing bill passed by Congress in decades. However, the bill has hit an unexpected roadblock as President Trump announced he would not sign the housing measure until Congress first passes the Save America Act, an election bill he has made a legislative priority.
