The Oklahoma Broadband Office has installed the state’s first Community Access Portal at the Kingfisher Memorial Library. This portal is designed to provide a private and user-friendly space for virtual appointments, workforce training, remote job interviews, video conferences, education, and other online services.
Expanding Access to Rural Communities
According to Mike Sanders, executive director of the Oklahoma Broadband Office, the Kingfisher Memorial Library is demonstrating what is possible when communities embrace technology that removes barriers created by geography. These Community Access Portals ensure rural Oklahomans have access to the same opportunities as residents in the state’s largest cities.
The Kingfisher library now includes two of up to 175 Portals that will be installed in libraries across Oklahoma. Public libraries interested in participating can submit a request through the Oklahoma Broadband Office’s Community Access Portal request form. Oklahomans can use the Community Access Portal Locator to see whether their local library has requested a Portal.
