Oklahoma GOP Gubernatorial Runoff: Drummond vs. Mazzei on Primary Election Day

On Primary Runoff Election Day, Oklahoma voters decided which Republican will advance as the party’s nominee for governor. The contest narrowed the crowded GOP field to two candidates: Attorney General Gentner Drummond and businessman and former state senator Mike Mazzei.

Vote totals and primary background

In the June primary, each candidate captured about 26 percent of the vote, with Drummond edging Mazzei by roughly 1,100 votes. The runoff therefore pitted the state’s top law‑enforcement official against a private‑sector leader with legislative experience.

Endorsements and campaign dynamics

President Donald Trump and Governor Kevin Stitt publicly backed Mazzei. Trump first endorsed Mazzei before the June primary and reiterated his support after the candidate advanced to the runoff, describing Drummond as a “fake Republican.” In a video posted to social media, Trump urged supporters to vote for Mazzei, calling him a “MAGA warrior” and a “lifelong conservative” who will fight for Oklahomans.

Drummond responded by emphasizing his focus on earning the trust of Oklahomans. He said the endorsement of the people he hopes to serve matters most to him. Drummond also noted his own support for President Trump, citing two recent visits to the White House where he met with Vice President JD Vance and FBI Director Kash Patel.

What lies ahead

The winner of the runoff will face Democratic House Minority Leader Cyndi Munson in the November general election. Munson secured about 75 percent of the Democratic primary vote and indicated she has support from registered Republicans, Independents and Libertarians who plan to vote for her in November.

County‑by‑county results were posted throughout the state, including detailed tallies for Beckham, Blaine, Canadian, Cleveland, Comanche, Custer, Garfield, Grady, Greer, Lincoln, Major, McClain, Noble, Oklahoma, Pontotoc, Seminole, Washita and Woods counties.

Key issues

Both candidates have highlighted traditional conservative priorities such as protecting family values, supporting the Constitution, and fostering economic growth. Drummond, as attorney general, has focused on law‑and‑order initiatives, while Mazzei has emphasized his business background and alignment with the Trump administration’s policies.

Oklahomans will receive the final certified results in the coming days, setting the stage for a November contest that will determine the state’s executive leadership.
