On August 11, Oklahoma County sheriff’s deputies arrived at an apartment to serve an eviction order. The resident, identified as 61‑year‑old Darron Dunn, barricaded himself inside the unit.
When deputies forced the door open, Dunn discharged a homemade flamethrower, projecting a stream of fire roughly 15 feet toward one officer. Body‑camera footage captured the flames erupting from a bedroom, forcing the deputies to retreat briefly.
Although the deputy was not injured, the incident escalated when investigators discovered what appeared to be an improvised explosive device linked to a car battery inside the apartment. The sheriff’s Tactical Team and Bomb Squad were called in to secure the area.
After the potential explosive threat was addressed, deputies cleared the residence and took Dunn into custody. He now faces multiple complaints, including assault and battery with a deadly weapon, possession of an incendiary device, and obstruction of an officer.
