Oklahoma City RV park begins rebuilding after suspicious wildfire

Residents of the Holliday Outt RV Park in Oklahoma City are seeing the first signs of recovery after a devastating wildfire swept through the area last week. The fire, which officials have labeled suspicious, destroyed a mobile home, several RVs, trailers and a personal vehicle, but left many other units intact.

Community rally and donations

On Saturday, park co‑owner Rick Garrett organized a weekend picnic that turned into a community‑wide effort to bring essential supplies. Volunteers dropped off cases of bottled water, fruit, and other necessities, helping residents cope while the park’s water system remains offline.

“I’m proud to be an Oklahoman and proud of everybody who’s stepped up,” Garrett said, expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support.

Restoring water and power

Crews spent Monday repairing a fire‑damaged well with the goal of restoring running water. The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality has issued an order prohibiting residents from drinking the water until it is cleared, but it can be used for toilets and showers. Garrett noted, “We’re trying to get temporary water today, and by tomorrow I hope we’re 100% done with the water.”

Electricity has largely been restored, though the Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company says full service will resume once customers complete necessary equipment repairs.

Investigation continues

The Oklahoma City Fire Department confirmed that the cause of the blaze remains under investigation. Officials have not ruled out arson, and the case is being examined by multiple agencies.

“The fire’s cause is still being investigated,” a fire department spokesperson said. “We are working with law‑enforcement to determine the origin.”

Looking ahead

Garrett emphasized that the focus now is on getting the park back to a livable state. “Get everybody back where it’s livable, the same way it was, and get the place cleaned up,” he said, adding that he plans to rest after the intense effort.

The community’s response highlights the resilience of Oklahoma City’s neighborhoods when faced with unexpected disasters. As repairs continue, residents remain hopeful that the park will soon return to normal operations.
