Oklahoma City Pride is asking local residents, businesses and supporters to help close a $17,000 budget shortfall from this year’s Pride on 39th festival. The deficit arose after several pledged sponsors failed to deliver their contributions and additional expenses exceeded the original projections.
Why the shortfall occurred
Board president Christian Taylor explained that the event featured a vibrant mix of newer, younger vendors, local artists, businesses and nonprofit groups. While the community turnout was strong, the organization fell short of the total amount owed for services, particularly the security personnel who kept the celebration safe.
“We had a great turnout and a wonderful showcase of local talent, but the gap between the funds we raised and the costs we incurred was larger than expected,” Taylor said.
Fundraising effort
To address the gap, Oklahoma City Pride has launched an online fundraiser. All contributions will be directed toward covering the remaining security costs and ensuring that future Pride events can continue without financial strain.
Donors can make a contribution by clicking the link provided on the organization’s website. The board emphasized that even modest gifts will make a difference in sustaining the safety and success of the festival.
Community response
Local leaders and community members have expressed support for the fundraiser, noting the importance of Pride as a celebration of inclusion and family values. Many see the event as an opportunity for families to gather, for local entrepreneurs to showcase their products, and for the city to demonstrate its commitment to a welcoming environment.
“Pride events bring families together and highlight the creativity of our local businesses,” said a longtime Oklahoma City resident who plans to donate. “It’s a chance to support both our community and the safety of our neighborhoods.”
How to donate
Those wishing to contribute can do so through the official Oklahoma City Pride donation page. The organization encourages donors to spread the word among friends, churches, and civic groups to help meet the funding goal quickly.
By rallying community support, Oklahoma City Pride hopes to close the $17,000 gap, maintain robust security for future celebrations, and continue providing a safe, family‑friendly space for all participants.
