Oklahoma City driver killed, three injured in Seminole County crash

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol confirmed that a tragic traffic collision occurred Friday night in Seminole County, claiming the life of a 24‑year‑old Oklahoma City man and injuring three passengers. The incident happened just after 10:20 p.m. as the driver, identified as Tywon E. Morton, was traveling east on a county road approaching U.S. 270.

Crash details

According to troopers, Morton’s vehicle left the roadway and rolled multiple times. All four occupants were fully ejected from the vehicle at the moment of impact. Emergency crews quickly transported the driver and his three passengers to nearby hospitals.

Morton later succumbed to his injuries, while the three passengers remain hospitalized with varying degrees of trauma. The patrol emphasized that none of the occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, a factor that likely contributed to the severity of the injuries and the fatal outcome.

Public‑safety reminder

OHP officials used the incident to reiterate the importance of seat‑belt use on Oklahoma roads. “Seat belts save lives and reduce the severity of injuries in crashes,” a spokesperson said. “We urge all drivers and passengers to buckle up every time they get into a vehicle, regardless of the distance or speed of travel.”

The department also reminded motorists to remain vigilant on rural roads, especially after dark, and to adjust speed to road conditions. The crash underscores ongoing concerns about traffic safety in the state, where rural highways can present hidden hazards such as sharp curves, limited lighting, and wildlife crossings.

Community response

Friends and family of the deceased have expressed deep sorrow, describing Morton as a caring individual who loved his community. Local churches and community groups have offered support to the grieving family, emphasizing the role of faith and fellowship during times of loss.

Seminole County officials have not indicated any immediate changes to road infrastructure or enforcement policies as a result of this crash, but the incident may prompt a review of safety measures on the affected stretch of road.

What to do if you’re involved in a crash

OHP advises anyone involved in a collision to remain at the scene, call 911, and provide accurate information to first responders. If you are able, gather witness statements and document the scene with photos, but prioritize medical assistance for any injured parties.
