Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt announced the name of the city’s new professional soccer team, OKC United, during his State of the City address. The team will begin play after the new multi-purpose stadium opens in a couple of years.
New Stadium and Investors
Ground broke earlier this summer on the $121 million multi-purpose stadium in downtown Oklahoma City. The stadium will be the home of professional football and soccer teams. Several star athletes, including Baker Mayfield, Russell Westbrook, and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, have invested in the soccer team and the club’s development.
The stadium is funded by Oklahoma City’s MAPS 4 initiative and was designed by the firm Populous. It will have a capacity of just over 10,000.
