OKC Thunder GM Sam Presti outlines offseason moves as team gears up for new NBA season

Oklahoma City – As the NBA preseason approaches, Thunder general manager Sam Presti shared the team’s offseason strategy with local media. Presti emphasized that the recent trades and signings are designed to give the Thunder a distinct identity and deeper roster depth for the upcoming campaign.

Key offseason acquisitions

Presti highlighted three notable additions: guard Isaiah Joe, forward Aaron Wiggins and wing Lu Dort. “These players bring a mix of shooting, defensive versatility and veteran experience that we felt was missing last year,” Presti said. The moves were part of a broader effort to surround the franchise’s young stars with reliable role players who can contribute on both ends of the floor.

Retaining the core

In addition to the new faces, the Thunder kept several contributors who helped the team stay competitive. Center Isaiah Hartenstein and forward Kenrich Williams both signed extensions, ensuring continuity in the frontcourt. Presti also confirmed that the franchise’s marquee talents – point guard Shai Gilgeous‑Alexander, center‑forward Chet Holmgren and forward Jalen Williams – remain under contract and will lead the squad.

Strategic outlook

When asked about the overall direction, Presti explained that the roster changes aim to improve three core areas: perimeter shooting, defensive flexibility and bench production. “We want a team that can adapt mid‑game, that can stretch the floor and that can defend multiple positions,” he noted. The GM also mentioned that the front office is closely monitoring player development, particularly the progress of Holmgren and Williams, who are expected to take on larger roles.

Community and fan engagement

Presti stressed the importance of the Thunder’s connection to Oklahoma City fans. “Our community is the heart of this organization,” he said. The team plans to host several fan‑focused events throughout the season, including open practices and youth basketball clinics, to keep the city engaged and inspired.

Looking ahead

With the roster set and the coaching staff finalizing game plans, Presti expressed optimism about the Thunder’s chances. “We have a talented group, a clear vision and the support of our fans. We’re ready to compete and make a deep run,” he concluded. The Thunder’s first regular‑season game is slated for early October, and the organization hopes the new mix of players will translate into on‑court success.
