According to Reuters, Brent crude traded near $88 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude climbed above $82. The gains came despite other pressures on the market, including softer oil demand forecasts and a sizable increase in U.S. crude inventories.
Attention remains focused on the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important routes for oil shipments. Any disruption in the area can quickly affect expectations for global supply and pricing.
The market is also monitoring developments elsewhere. A separate disruption at Russia’s Ust-Luga oil export hub followed a Ukrainian drone attack, adding another potential supply concern.
