Tyler Wilkin, a 35-year-old Ohio native, was found shot dead with a gunshot wound to the back of his head while on a camping trip on Playa La Selva in Luquillo, Puerto Rico. His body was found on July 10.
Investigation Ongoing
A fundraiser has been started to raise $30,000 to hire a private investigator to take over Wilkin’s case. The private investigator, Jamie Copenhaver, believes that Wilkin may have been lured away from his campsite by a suspicious noise, possibly a howling sound.
Copenhaver, a former sheriff’s investigator, has investigated cases in Puerto Rico and is concerned that the local police may lack the necessary training and resources to handle the case. He recommends that the family contact the FBI in San Juan for assistance.
The FBI has stated that they are providing technical assistance to the Puerto Rico Police Department, but the case remains an ongoing local investigative matter.
