The emergency sirens surrounding Oconee Nuclear Station will be tested on July 1 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. as part of regularly scheduled efforts to ensure they are functioning properly.
Duke Energy is coordinating with emergency management officials with Oconee and Pickens counties to conduct the tests. The sirens will sound for between five and 30 seconds.
Duke owns and maintains 65 emergency sirens within 10 miles of Oconee Nuclear Station. During the testing, some sirens may sound more than once. Further testing may occur past 1 p.m. following siren maintenance.
Anyone hearing the sirens does not need to take action.
