State Rep. Jessica Gonzalez is calling for a state review after residents of the Bonnie Apartments in Oak Cliff have gone more than two months without natural gas service following a nearby explosion. The apartment complex is located within Gonzalez’s legislative district.

Gonzalez has sent a letter to the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs requesting a review of the apartment building and the emergency response provided by the city of Dallas. She wants to determine what happened and identify ways to better protect residents in the future.
For weeks, residents have spoken out about the lack of gas service, saying they feel they have fallen through the cracks. “We gotta take cold showers, I might want to fix something on my oven and I can’t do it,” a resident said. “Ain’t nobody said nothing about we’re gonna fix y’all’s gas. Ain’t nobody doing anything about it.”
Gonzalez’s letter also raises questions about Atmos’ infrastructure. Earlier this month, Atmos Energy told NBC 5 that a gas line not owned by Atmos must be repaired before natural gas service can be restored.
