NYPD releases suspect photo after Crown Heights shooting near Labor Day parade

Brooklyn police released a photograph overnight of a man wanted in connection with a shooting that injured two people near the New York Carnival Parade on Labor Day. The incident occurred at about 4 p.m. on Eastern Parkway and Kingston Avenue, where a woman was shot in the leg and a 19‑year‑old man was shot in the foot. Both victims are currently listed as being in stable condition.

Multiple incidents in Crown Heights

The shooting was one of several violent episodes that afternoon in Crown Heights. Police also reported a separate shooting in front of 800 Nostrand Avenue at St. John’s Place, just north of Eastern Parkway. In addition, five people were stabbed just hours before the parade began, though all five are expected to survive.

Police response and community safety

The NYPD emphasized that the suspect’s photo is being shared to aid the investigation and to protect the community. Officers are urging anyone who recognizes the individual to contact the precinct immediately. The department noted that the release comes despite extensive security measures that were already in place for the Carnival Parade, an event that has historically faced threats of violence.

Last year, the parade saw six people shot—none fatally—and one person was slashed. The recent incidents underscore the ongoing challenge of maintaining public safety during large‑scale cultural celebrations.

What residents can do

Community members are asked to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activity, and cooperate with law‑enforcement efforts. The NYPD continues to patrol the area heavily throughout the parade weekend and will maintain a visible presence in Crown Heights and surrounding neighborhoods.

Authorities remind the public that the victims’ conditions are stable and that medical personnel responded quickly to provide care. The investigation remains active, and police have not yet announced any arrests related to the shootings.

Looking ahead

The New York Carnival Parade is scheduled to continue this weekend, with organizers and city officials working together to ensure a safe environment for participants and spectators. Police will keep the public informed of any new developments as the investigation proceeds.
