Norfolk entrepreneur Nicole King is back in business. After an SUV mistakenly accelerated into the front of her Head Turnerz salon on Sept. 6, King spent about $20,000 out of pocket to repair the damage and close the shop for several weeks.
Community rally lifts a local business
Neighbors, family members and longtime clients gathered to help King rebuild, offering both moral and material support. “The neighborhood itself, everybody came together to help me, so I just really appreciate that,” King said.
One client, Angela Sumner, described the assistance as a “blessing,” noting that King’s generosity over the years made the help feel natural. “You’re good to people, and it’s your turn,” Sumner said.
Faith and health milestones
King also used the reopening to share a personal health victory. Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2025, she has been in remission for a year after the disease was caught early during a routine mammogram. “I just wanted to make other people aware because I didn’t have symptoms. It was literally found on a routine mammogram and it was caught early, so that was just a blessing for me,” she explained.
Her faith has been a cornerstone throughout the challenges. “God is just continuing to bless me,” King said, adding that she feels called to rebuild both her business and her life on that foundation.
Looking ahead
With Head Turnerz officially reopened, King is focused on serving her clients and continuing to raise awareness about early cancer detection. She hopes her story encourages others to trust in faith, community, and timely medical care.
