Noble Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, has announced significant layoffs at its Indianapolis facility. The organization, located on the east side of the city, will be letting go of 80 employees as part of a strategic realignment. This decision comes amidst increasing uncertainty surrounding federal and state funding for disability services.
Impact on Services and Employees
The layoffs will affect the Community Living residential services, which will be discontinued as part of the realignment. This change impacts 38 individuals receiving these services, a small fraction of the 4,400 children and adults Noble serves annually. Wade Wingler, Noble’s president and CEO, emphasized the organization’s commitment to evolving with the needs of the community, stating that the realignment will allow Noble to focus more on programs where it has the greatest expertise, such as day services, employment services, and children’s services.
Despite the layoffs, Noble is taking steps to support affected employees. The organization is collaborating with Sycamore Services to provide assistance and is offering retention bonuses and COBRA coverage for eligible staff who remain through the transition period.
Future Directions
Noble’s strategic realignment is aimed at strengthening and expanding its nationally recognized programs. In recent years, the organization has invested in innovative and inclusive programming, including the opening of Noble Art in Speedway in 2025. The company remains committed to ensuring that no one is left behind during this transition, as stated in their prepared statement.
