Darion Brown has been named head coach of the Nicholls State University men’s basketball program, Vice President for Collegiate Athletics and Athletics Director Jonathan Terrell announced Tuesday. The hiring is pending approval from the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors.
Background
Brown, a former assistant coach at Nicholls, returns to Thibodaux following a successful two-year stint as head coach at Texas A&M University-Texarkana. After the Eagles won just eight games in the season prior to his arrival, Brown led his squad to back-to-back 20-win seasons.
“I’m incredibly grateful to be back home,” Brown said. “Nearly four years ago, I left this place feeling like there was still unfinished business. From that moment on, I always believed I’d have the opportunity to return and help build something special.”
Brown spent the 2023-24 season as an assistant at Jacksonville University, helping the Dolphins to a 16-win season which ended with an appearance in the semifinals of the ASUN Tournament.
Reaction
“We are excited to welcome Darion Brown as our new head men’s basketball coach,” Terrell said. “Darion’s energy is contagious, and his passion for Nicholls is evident in everything he does. Having previously been part of our program, he understands our culture, our expectations, and what it takes to win.”
