The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the location of its new temple in Caldwell, Idaho, marking a significant development for the local faith community. The temple will be constructed on a 19.2-acre plot at the southwest corner of West Orchard Avenue and South Florida Avenue in Caldwell. This new addition will serve as a spiritual hub for many members of the Church in the area.
Local Impact and Community Growth
Elder Stephen J. Larson, a local leader of the Church, expressed gratitude for the new temple, emphasizing its importance as a sacred place of worship. “Temples are sacred and special places of worship,” Larson stated, adding that the new House of the Lord will provide closer proximity for many members to serve and worship.
The announcement of the Caldwell temple was initially made in April 2025. This temple will be the third in the Boise metropolitan area, joining existing temples in Boise and Meridian, and will be the 11th temple in Idaho. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has a significant presence in Idaho, with over 480,000 members across roughly 1,300 congregations statewide.
Expanding Faith Infrastructure
In addition to the Caldwell temple, the Church has plans for other temple locations across Idaho, including Boise, Burley, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho Falls, Meridian, Montpelier, Pocatello, Rexburg, Teton River, and Twin Falls. These developments reflect the Church’s commitment to supporting its members and expanding its infrastructure to accommodate the growing community.
The new temple in Caldwell is expected to be a multi-story building covering 82,000 square feet, featuring a meeting house and an ancillary building. This expansion is not only a testament to the growth of the Latter-day Saints community in Idaho but also highlights the Church’s dedication to providing accessible places of worship for its members.
