The Big Horn Basin Cancer Center (BHBCC) in Cody, Wyoming, announced the addition of Dr. Flip Troicki, MD, to its radiation oncology team. Dr. Troicki arrives after more than a decade of practice in Wisconsin, drawn by the slower pace of life and the chance to serve a close‑knit community.
From Business to Medicine
Before entering medicine, Dr. Troicki earned a dual degree in economics and biology from Dartmouth College and founded a successful healthcare‑marketing firm in New York City. “My wife and I were just married and didn’t have kids yet, and it was just go‑go‑go,” he recalled. “I had an epiphany moment and said, ‘I’d really like to help people.’”
Motivated by that calling, he completed two post‑baccalaureate courses, passed the MCAT, and entered medical school, crediting “the will of God” for his acceptance. While in school, a mentorship with a world‑renowned radiation oncologist steered him toward the specialty.
Why Radiation Oncology?
Dr. Troicki said radiation oncology blends his two primary interests: building lasting relationships with patients and families, and employing advanced technology to treat cancer. “It basically combined everything that I wanted… I am very, very happy that it happened because I couldn’t be happier with my career choice,” he said.
Choosing Cody
After practicing in Wisconsin for roughly twelve years, Dr. Troicki sought a setting where he could spend more time with his family and make a tangible impact on an entire community. “Sometimes people in cities become numbers; here I don’t think that’s going to happen because it does feel like a family,” he explained. “It’s such a great opportunity – I think what we can build up here in Cody is the best cancer center in Wyoming.”
Community Event for Survivors
To introduce Dr. Troicki and reinforce its commitment to local health, BHBCC will host a community gathering titled “Thriving Locally: Your Guide to Rural Cancer Survivorship Services.” The event is scheduled for Oct. 1, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and welcomes cancer survivors, caregivers, and family members. Attendees will learn about post‑treatment resources, support networks, and the center’s expanding services.
