New Mexico State football has been busy in the transfer portal, adding several key players to improve its roster. Running back James Jones and tight end Josiah Thomas are expected to be immediate impact players on offense. The Aggies also aggressively rebuilt their offensive line, bringing in five transfers, including multiple starters from other programs.
Offensive Additions
The team bolstered its secondary with several promising defensive backs, highlighted by the return of Tayden Barnes. Barnes should be one of NM State’s best defensive players. The Aggies also added three defensive linemen, including Kaian Roberts-Day and Jeremiah Sandiford.
Defensive Additions
While the Aggies did not add any linebackers from the portal, they do return Sone Aupiu and Tory Gethers. The defensive line, however, is a concern, with Ezra Christensen, Jamall Thompson Jr., Cole Schnettgoecke, and Ta’Avili Tuitama all gone. Returners like Gabe Peterson, Brad Vislisel, and Henry Davis III provide a solid foundation, but Roberts-Day and Sandiford need to play well.
