A 74-year-old man was rescued in Catron County, New Mexico, after becoming lost while hiking. The man had been separated from his truck for 40 hours and was able to text his family to report his location.
Authorities launched a search and rescue mission, which involved volunteers from Mesilla Valley and Doña Ana County SAR, as well as thermal drones and dogs to track the man’s scent. The man’s clever decision to draw an arrow in the dirt helped rescuers locate him.
Medical personnel evaluated the man, and he was later reunited with his family. The New Mexico State Police praised the efforts of the search and rescue volunteers, calling them ‘unsung heroes’ who work tirelessly to save lives.
