New Mexico Faces High Heat, Fire Danger

New Mexico is bracing for a heat wave, with temperatures expected to soar into the triple digits in some areas by Wednesday. The increased heat will also bring elevated fire danger, particularly in the southwestern part of the state.

Fire Weather Watch Issued

A Fire Weather Watch has been issued for northwest New Mexico, the Central mountains, and the middle Rio Grande Valley, effective Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday evening. Northwest winds sustained at 15 to 20 mph could gust as high as 35, increasing the risk of wildfires.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated, limit their time outdoors during peak heating hours, and be cautious with fire. The heat wave is expected to continue through the week, with temperatures moderating by the weekend.
