New Japanese Restaurant Suzu to Open in Cincinnati’s Madison Square

Cincinnati’s Madison Square is set to welcome a new culinary destination this summer with the opening of Suzu, a contemporary Japanese restaurant led by the acclaimed Chef Makoto Okuwa. The restaurant is expected to open its doors in July, although the exact date remains unannounced.

A Unique Dining Experience

Suzu will occupy a spacious 6,000 square foot venue, accommodating around 200 guests. It will feature its own omakase counter and cocktail bar, offering patrons a unique opportunity to experience Japanese sushi tradition in its purest form. The Suzunone, a 12-seat Edo-style omakase counter, promises an intimate and authentic dining experience.

Chef Makoto Okuwa, who has a rich culinary background including working alongside Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto, brings his expertise to the Cincinnati region. His previous ventures, such as Makoto Bal Harbour, have garnered significant acclaim, including recognition from Michelin and James Beard.

Menu and Ambiance

The menu at Suzu will offer a variety of Japanese cuisine, including shareable starters, fresh sushi, warm rice and noodle dishes, and premium Japanese grill items. Chef Okuwa emphasizes the importance of care and respect for ingredients, a value instilled in him by his mother and grandmother, which he aims to reflect in every dish served at Suzu.

With the addition of Suzu, Madison Square continues to grow as a premier dining destination in Cincinnati, joining other notable establishments like Alara, Element Eatery, and Zingaro. This expansion is expected to enhance the local dining scene and attract food enthusiasts from across the city.

Chef Okuwa’s influence extends beyond the United States, having opened his first European restaurant in Madrid and a venture at sea with Princess Cruises. His commitment to delivering remarkable culinary experiences is evident in each of his projects, and Suzu is anticipated to be no exception.
