At the Bella Vista polling place in New Haven, voters expressed concerns about affordability as they cast their ballots in the Democratic primary for the 97th State House District.
Affordability on the Mind
Bella Vista resident Terrell Williams, who has lived at the senior apartment complex since February, voted for Leland Moore because he believes Moore will fight for a more affordable New Haven. Williams, who has struggled with medical insurance and diabetes, said he wants to see more affordable healthcare options.
Another Bella Vista resident, Heidi Mead, also cited affordability as a top concern. Mead, 71, said she wants to see more affordable housing options, particularly for seniors. She noted that the adjusted rent at Bella Vista has been a lifesaver for her, but she believes more needs to be done to address the affordability crisis in New Haven.
Mead, who has voted in every election since she was 18, said she seeks out candidates with fresh ideas and a commitment to addressing the needs of ordinary people. She declined to say who she voted for, citing her belief in voter privacy.
