Sisters of the Modern Scholar, a local collective, hosted its inaugural initiative on July 12, celebrating and supporting graduating seniors from New Haven who are preparing to begin their college journeys this fall.
Community Comes Together
As part of the initiative, 50 thoughtfully curated college-ready baskets were prepared and distributed to participating students. These baskets were filled with essential items to support their transition into college life. The event was hosted at Tia Russell Arts Center, with the space, baskets, and all items within them donated by local organizations, businesses, and community partners.
The event was filled with joy, gratitude, and community pride. Attendees included the student recipients, their families, and representatives from the many businesses and organizations that contributed to the initiative. A live DJ added to the celebratory atmosphere, while guests enjoyed connecting, celebrating, and capturing memorable moments in front of the event display.
New Haven Chief of Police, David Zannelli, joined the event in support of the initiative, sharing encouraging words with the students and taking time to mingle and take photos with attendees.
