New Haven’s city council is considering a moratorium on approving new energy-devouring artificial intelligence (AI) data centers. This decision comes as the city moves forward with a new downtown tech tower, partially devoted to housing the state’s quantum computing project.
Quantum Computing vs. AI
Unlike AI, quantum computing does not put an expensive strain on the energy grid. It works at faster-than-lightning speed to process information and answer questions, without aiming to replace human agency or thinking.
A Development Commission meeting this week discussed the new tower, including concerns about digging into bedrock to control vibrations for precision. Builder Winstanley Enterprises offered possible solutions.
The city’s mid-year crime stats are also looking promising, and work has begun on preserving one of the city’s architectural gems.
