New Haven Celebrates Puerto Rican Culture

The city of New Haven kicked off the tenth annual Puerto Rican Festival of New Haven with a flag-raising ceremony on the Green. The event, organized by Puerto Ricans United, drew locals who came to watch and add their voices to the celebration. Three New Haveners, including Truman School teacher Ruth Rosa and rising Sound School senior Benjalie Hernandez, performed musical pieces, showcasing their talents.

Puerto Rican Festival Details

The festival, which runs Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 1 to 9 p.m., promises to bring tens of thousands of people together to celebrate Puerto Rican culture and raise money for good causes. This year’s musical lineup includes Lisette Melendez and India. Mayor Justin Elicker also participated in the flag-raising ceremony, singing a rendition of ‘Soñando Con Puerto Rico’.
