Dr. Phillip Rozeman, a cardiologist with Willis-Knighton Health, says statins have had a positive impact on reducing and preventing cardiovascular disease by lowering cholesterol. However, statins aren’t tolerated by everyone, and some patients experience side effects, including muscle aches.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently approved a new oral medication called enlicitide, giving patients another option. Rozeman recommends patients interested in the medication talk with their healthcare provider or cardiologist to determine if they are a candidate for the treatment.
