Lincoln, Nebraska – The University of Nebraska’s women’s volleyball program continued its dominant season on Sunday, defeating Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) 3‑1 in the Ameritas Players Challenge held at the Devaney Center.
Key performances drive the win
Senior outside hitter Teraya Sigler led the Huskers with a double‑double, posting 15 kills and 13 blocks. Her aggressive play helped Nebraska secure comfortable wins in the first two sets, 25‑10 and 25‑17.
FGCU rallied in the third set, edging the Huskers 27‑25 after a brief lapse by Nebraska’s starters. The turning point came when the Huskers’ second‑unit players – Keoni Williams, Skyler Pierce and Campbell Flynn – seized momentum, scoring five straight points to tie the set before the Eagles ultimately closed it.
Coach praises depth and resilience
Head coach Dani Busboom Kelly praised the contributions of the bench, noting, “Some of the second‑string players had awesome games. It was great to see Ke play; she hasn’t played much this year. And Campbell did a great job. They really worked their way into just playing really well. I’m pretty proud of them. And that comeback in game three was also awesome. That was tough to do against anybody.”
The Huskers responded with a commanding fourth set, winning 25‑14 to seal the match 3‑1.
Looking ahead
Nebraska’s next challenge arrives on Wednesday when the Huskers host the University of Missouri. The matchup will serve as the makeup game for the previously postponed contest at Wrigley Field on Sept. 6. The first serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at the Devaney Center.
With the victory over FGCU, Nebraska maintains its No. 1 national ranking and demonstrates the depth that has become a hallmark of the program under Coach Busboom Kelly. The strong showing from both starters and reserves bodes well for the team’s upcoming conference slate and the pursuit of another national championship.
