Lincoln, Neb. – Nebraska head football coach Matt Rhule met with the media Monday morning at the Hawks Championship Center to discuss the team’s recent loss on the road at Oregon. The defeat marked the second straight game the Huskers have entered the fourth quarter with a lead, only to see it slip away in the final minutes.
Coach’s assessment of the Oregon game
“To be honest, Saturday is a game that we should have won,” Rhule said. “I give credit to Oregon for finding a way to win the game. I believe, as we look at us as a football team, we’re a team that’s lost the last two weeks, and that’s unacceptable. And that’s not okay. I also think we’re a team that probably two plays away from being a top ten program. And of those can be true.”
Injury updates
Rhule confirmed that running back Isaiah Mozee will be sidelined for an undisclosed period after exiting the Oregon game with an injury. He expressed optimism that Jamal Rule, who also left the game, will be back in time for the next contest against Washington.
Additionally, senior offensive lineman Vincent Genatone is set to undergo season‑ending surgery, and junior defensive back Anthony Jones was playing with a broken foot during the Oregon matchup.
Looking ahead
With the Huskers entering a bye week, the coaching staff will have time to evaluate the health of the injured players and make adjustments before the home game against Washington on Halloween. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Hawks Championship Center.
Team outlook
Despite the recent setbacks, Rhule remains confident in the program’s direction. He emphasized the importance of learning from the loss and using the upcoming break to refocus on fundamentals, conditioning and game‑plan execution. The Huskers aim to return to the field with a healthier roster and a renewed commitment to finishing games strong.
